Reflecting

The words my grown-ass daughter said to me,
intended not to hurt but make a point,
seemed harsh and cold and uttered needlessly,
but weren’t voiced to batter or disjoint.
She learned the strategy at my own knee
(I never meant an heiress to anoint).
I fielded what she tossed without a smile,
and learned how ineffective is that style.
