Plant Puppies

Plant Puppies

The passion flower’s otherworldly bloom,
cape honeysuckle and another vine,
we plan to plant today. I have the room –
wisteria that I considered mine
has died. For weeks I watched for buds to grow,
but stunted purple petals broke my heart.
It’s rot or girdled root – we just don’t know –
the flowers failed and leafing didn’t start.

So Jerry pruned the corpse at my request
and said he’d fetch by bicycle more vines,
but Lynne stepped up – she thought it would be best
for her to go by car. Landscape designs
are poems to her – beloved exercise.
I’m eager like a kid for what she buys.
