As when a high-rise building is allowed
to stand above, behind, and at each side
of some historic storefront, there’s a crowd
of new construction bordering my pride
and joy, the haven where I love to bide.
My cottage has existed 80 years
without a neighbor. Now a pair appears.
I understand. To build here is a must –
the people press and we’ve no new frontiers.
But I may need a while to adjust.
