Ego Strength

Weak ego takes offense so readily,
it gathers insult from a shrug or glance.
It notices the careless frequently,
and seldom gives impersonal a chance.
Identifying disrespect not meant,
it quarrels and it quibbles, whines or yells.
Its insecurity’s a monument
to ignorance and fragile temper spells.

Strong ego knows most strangers aren’t mad,
and cleaves the inconsiderate from mean.
Self knowledge doesn’t recognize a bad
opinion they ignore because of keen
appreciation, inward-aimed and true.
I know which I am – what’s the case with you?
