Irregretful

Diagnosis1

The medicos have not been good for me.
In general I’ve had less help than pain
from doctors, nurses, techs and pharmacy,
but every now and then the docs explain
a situation, show a stretch or teach,
and then I benefit. One guy advised
hysteria is more than nerves. “We reach
an age,” another said, “when we’re surprised
old habits bring new grief. Then life’s a list
of learning how to say goodbye to what
we’ve grown to do so much it will be missed.”

I know them right. I feel it in my gut,
so nervously I turn away from flings
I once enjoyed, a lot, to calmer things.
