Sense

Does scarlet look as thick to you as me?
Do trumpets sound as vibrant in your ears?
Does velvet have the same consistency
between your fingertips? And what appears
behind your eyelids closed against the sun?
Apparently agreeing sensibly,
I wonder what’s the same for everyone;
just how estranged and alternate are we?

I don’t know ASL. You can’t read birds
as omens, and she’s score-blind musically.
Existence blossoms when I ponder words
but others don’t love etymology.
Perception differs always, I expect.
And yet we mostly manage to connect.
