The Taste of Air

I visited in ‘66 and fell
in love. I moved for school and I’m still here,
arrested and inspired by the spell,
addicted to the lively atmosphere.

We form an open ward, but loose and free;
we reconfigure gardens but don’t tear
the houses down. We like diversity,
but this above all else – we love our air.

Positioned perfectly across the bay,
the ocean breathes upon us through a gap
we call the Golden Gate. So every day
the air is sweet, the coastal fog’s our wrap
at night, and inhalations stroke the throat
that taste like air pollution’s antidote.
