Chasm

Behold the weary woman in her chair
or better, be the holder with your hands.
Betake her with your eyes but if you care
for her, then take her what she understands.
For she is too fatigued to see your glance,
and she is too exhausted to attend
the stories you unravel; her romance
is touching like a lover from a friend.

So let her know you want her if you can,
and be too much together if you must,
but if you’d have her heart, then be a man
who through his touch assures her she can trust
you as a partner on a sudden course,
careening through the chasms of divorce.
