Trick

The trick (I’ll make this quick), if that’s the word
to best describe an easy thing once done
that, prior to completion, seemed absurd
or difficult – most anything but fun –
the trick requires neither wit nor heart,
but only asks I use my memory.

It seems that all I have to be is smart
enough to analyze from history
the little lessons, endings for each cause,
the recollections of a night misspent,
the consequences of my natural laws,
and use them to reject more than repent
the wasted wasting of an hour or ten.
Now I won’t need to learn this trick again.
