Cards

card4

The Jack’s a varlet also called a knave.
The Queen’s iconic woman, as we know.
The King’s a power card – the rule book gave
him influence the chess board can’t bestow.
The other cards don’t show us any face,
and even though the Deuce is sometimes wild,
no figure has the power of an Ace,
by score or how its solitude is styled.

Which card to you select to represent
withholding children, laughter, or support?
What symbolizes anger, or the shove
of harsh rejection? Say you never meant
to play that card – I fold or I retort,
for everybody holds some cards at love.
